5 Sci-Fi Movies To Watch On OTT Before Getting Your Ticket For Kalki 2898 AD

One of the year’s biggest films, Kalki 2898 AD, is about to release in theatres this week on June 27. Writer-director Nag Ashwin‘s new film is set in a a post-apocalyptic world and stars Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani. To get you in the mood for sci-fi and some dystopian world, here are some films to watch on OTT before you head to the theatres.

Atlas

Starring Jennifer Lopez in the title role, the sci-fi feature by Brad Peyton is set in dystopian world where humanity is engaged in a long and ongoing war with artificial intelligence. The AI terrorist Harlan, played by Simu Liu, has escaped Earth and wages a battle from another planet. Lopez is counterterrorism analyst Atlas who tracks down Harlan intending to take him down. What happens when she is trapped, alone, in an ARC suit with a computer program named Smith?

The Kitchen

Get Out’s Daniel Kaluuya makes his directorial debut with Kibwe Tavares on this pensive British sci-fi drama. Featuring Kane Robinson and Jedaiah Bannerman, the futuristic film is set in a bleak future where citizens are holed out in high-rises which operate like slums. The feature is also about a tentative father and a son relationship, as well as a commentary on the growing divide between the rich and the poor.

Rebel Moon

Zack Snyder’s take on Star Wars is divided into two films Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire and Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver. Sofia Boutella plays a former Imperium soldier Kora, who has forsaken a life of violence, by retiring to a farming colony on the moon of Veldt. However, when her old life catches up with her, it is up to her to gather an army and protect those who she considers family now. The VFX-heavy sci-fi saga also stars Djimon Housou, Ed Skrein and Michiel Huisman.

Spaceman

The contemplative space drama features Adam Sandler as astronaut Jakub Procházka sent out on a mission to figure out what’s behind a giant purple cloud on the edge of the solar system. While on his quest, Jakub encounters a sentient space spider that helps deal with his problems back on Earth, especially with his wife Lenka (Carey Mulligan). The Johan Renck film has a few similarities with Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar.

Code 8: Part II

Real-life cousins Stephen Amell and Robbie Amell return to reprise their roles in this sci-fi action film by Jeff Chan. Their characters are estranged ex-cons who had a mission go badly in the first film, Code 8. This time, Connor Reed (Robbie Amell) and Garrett Kelton (Stephen Amell) reunite to save 14-year-old Pavani (Sirena Gulamgaus) from the corrupt cops and help her get justice for her slain brother.
