India are currently taking on Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup 2024 in their second match of the Super 8 stage at the T20 World Cup 2024. One of the players that India needed to be wary off in the encounter is none other than Shakib Al Hasan, who is probably the biggest name to come out of Bangladesh cricket in history. Right in the early stages of the match, the former Bangladesh captain created history and became the first man in th world to achieve a big milestone.

Shakib Al Hasan came on to bowl early in the match, as he has been used right in the powerplay against India. He went for a few runs, before he got the prized wicket of Rohit Sharma who was batting beautifully on 23 from just 11 balls. This was Shakib’s 50th wicket in his T20 World Cup career. He thus became the first bowler in history to take a half-century of wickets in the history of the T20 World Cup.

Here are the players with the most number of wickets in T20 World Cup history:

Shakib Al Hasan- 50

Shahid Afridi- 39

Lasith Malinga- 38

Wanindu Hasaranga- 37

Saeed Ajmal- 36

In addition to taking 149 wickets, Shakib Al Hasan has scored 842 runs in T20 World Cups, and is thus Bangladesh’s top scorer in tournament’s history.

Shaib Al Hasan is also the highest wicket-taking spinner in T20I history with 149 scalps. In fact, he is just second behind New Zealand’s Tim Southee, in the all-time highest wicket-takers list.

Here are the players with the most number of wickets in the history of T20Is:

Tim Southee- 164

Shakib Al Hasan- 149

Rashid Khan- 147

Ish Sodhi- 138

Mustafizur Rahman- 127

Shakib Al Hasan has taken 442 wickets across all three formats (Tests, ODIs and T20Is), and is the all-time highest wicket-taker in Bangladesh’s history.

Bangladesh have won the toss and opted to bowl against India. The Indians got off to a fast start with a 39-run opening stand in just 3.4 overs. Rohit Sharma was the first to get out, before Virat Kohli finally looked to be back in form. However, after scoring a blistering 37 runs he too got out. Just two balls later, the man in form Suryakumar Yadav also fell to Tanzim Hasan Shakib. Rishabh Pant was looking in good form but was dismissed for 36 from 24 balls.
