Rohit Sharma shuts down ‘complacency’ talk with fitting remark.

Rohit Sharma came up with a fiery reply shutting down the ‘complacency’ talk after the Indian team suffered a shock 0-2 ODI series defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka. The hosts defeated the Indian team by 110 runs after the Men in Blue had prevailed 3-0 in the T20I series.

Despite the return of the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer among others, India were unable to tackle Sri Lanka’s spin bowling. Following the tied first game, Sri Lanka prevailed in both remaining matches to end the series on a high.

It was indeed a reality check for the Indian team who only have 3 more ODI games scheduled to be played before the Champions Trophy 2025 next year. Rohit was quizzed about ‘complacency’ creeping into the side after their historic T20 World Cup triumph in June, but the ‘Hitman’ insisted that it will never be that case as long as he is the one leading the Men in Blue.

“I don’t think it is a concern (spin problems). But it is something we have to look at individually and as a gameplan. It is a joke, when you are playing for India there is never going to be complacency. When I am captain there is no chance of that,” said Rohit while talking in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Throughout the series, there were plenty of experiments done by the Indian team, as they tried and tested different combinations. Rohit said that they had to give credit to Sri Lanka for playing better, and given the conditions in the Island nation, India tried different players but it didn’t pay off.

“But you have to give credit to good cricket. Sri Lanka played better than us. We looked at the conditions and went with the combinations, there are also guys who need to be looked at and hence the changes. There are a lot of areas we need to look at rather than the positives from this series because we need to be better prepared when we come across such conditions next time,” the 37-year-old added.
