The Brahmatal Lake is a destination with heavy religious significance, as it’s where the Lord Brahma considered as his abode for meditation for thousands of years. It’s also taken as the home of the Bramhmkamal, the primordial flower of the Himalayan region. The surface of the lake itself is completely frozen over, during the winter months of October to March.

The Brahmatal Trek

The trek itself is 28 kilometres long, starting from Lohajung in the Chamoli region of the Garhwal Himalayas. From there, the trek offers a truly authentic view of the Himalayas, through deep coniferous forests and rows of rhododendron trees.

Best Time to Visit

The best time for the Brahmatal Trek is during the winter months of December to March, ideal for snow trekking. The months of September to December offer spectacular views of sunsets and sunrises. From April to August, the flora and fauna are at their peak, allowing trekkers to appreciate the natural beauty of the region.

Lohajung, the base camp for some of the famous treks, Many hotels, guesthouses and homestays can be found here, with both affordability and a fantastic view out the window. While on the trek, you might have to resort to sleeping in tents.

How To Reach Brahmatal Trek

By Bus: There’s a functional road that runs all the way to the trek basecamp, Lohajung.

By Train: The Kathgodam Railway Station would be your nearest shot to the Brahmatal Lake. It also connects with a lot of other destinations and towns like Delhi, Lucknow, Dehradun and Howrah.

By Plane: The nearest airport to Brahmatal Lake is the Pantnagar Domestic Airport, barely 32 km away from Kathgodam of Uttarakhand. The airport in the town directly connects to Delhi with 4 round flights every week.
