Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk on Thursday fired back at author Stephen King‘s criticism of his space company. Musk’s response featured an AI-generated image depicting King with an eggplant in his mouth, surrounded by stacks of cash and a clown in the background. The humorous image took aim at the “King of Horror” following his remarks.
King is yet to respond to Musk’s AI image. Earlier in the day, the popular author tweeted about SpaceX launches being on hold after a booster failed an attempt to land back on Earth during a routine Starlink mission on Wednesday.
“SpaceX launches are on hold after a booster rocket toppled over in flames while landing Wednesday,” Stephen King said on X, platform formerly known as Twitter.
Musk responded with:
The exchange between Elon Musk and Stephen King took place a day after the US Federal Aviation Administration said SpaceX’s workhorse Falcon 9 rocket has been grounded. This was the company’s second grounding this year.
Falcon 9 was launched a batch of Starlink internet satellites into orbit on Wednesday morning. The rocket’s first stage booster returned to Earth and attempted to land on a sea-faring barge, but toppled into the ocean after a fiery touchdown. SpaceX was live streaming the launch.
“The incident involved the failure of the Falcon 9 booster rocket while landing on a droneship at sea. No public injuries or public property damage have been reported. The FAA is requiring an investigation,” an FAA spokesperson said.
