The Pentagon was reportedly on lockdown on Friday amid large police presence. Authorities are yet to issue a formal statement confirming the incident at the headquarters building of the United States Department of Defense. Some social media users posted screenshots of an email alleging that ‘all access in and out of the building is restricted until further notice’.

Local media reports soon reported that the lockdown was lifted. Meanwhile, freelance reporter Andrew Leyden tweeted that there was a police incident at the subway station, ‘but that has now been cleared’.

Carla Babb of VOA News reported that the Pentagon was on lockdown ‘for a few minutes today’ for a “misidentification”. She cited an official to add that a person wearing tactical gear was spotted in the building.

“Out of abundance of caution, PFPA initiated a lockdown. PFPA then immediately realized the person had called in 1 of the Pentagon’s own police officers who was wearing the tactical gear. “It was a misidentification.” The lockdown was lifted. Whole thing took just a few minutes,” Babb added on X, platform formerly known as Twitter.

Earlier this month, police responded to a smash-and-grab robbery at a shopping mall across the street from Pentagon. Arlington County Police said three suspects entered a business at the Fashion Centre and broke a glass display case. They also deployed a fire extinguisher.
