As Florida’s Big Bend braces for Hurricane Helene to make landfall Thursday, a video of the storm was recorded by NASA’s International Space Station (ISS). In the video, a large, dense white cloud can be spotted over the Pacific Ocean, indicating the vast expanse of the storm that will enter Florida as a Category 4 hurricane with a wind speed of up to 130 mph.

A storm surge warning has been issued along Florida’s west coast due to the impending landfall. In some places, the storm surge could go as high as 20 feet, the National Weather Service has warned.
Marco Rubio, a Senator from Florida, has asked residents of concerned areas to immediately evacuate, saying that humans cannot survive this storm surge.
The following areas are in the greatest danger of being affected by a storm surge, as per the NWS: Carrabelle to Suwannee River (15 to 20 feet storm surge), Apalachicola to Carrabelle (10 to 15 feet storm surge), and Suwannee River to Chassahowitzka (10 to 15 feet storm surge).
Additionally, Chassahowitzka to Anclote River may see 8 to 12 feet, Indian Pass to Apalachicola 6 to 10 feet, Anclote River to Longboat Key 5 to 8 feet, and Tampa Bay is also predicted to experience 5 to 8 feet of surge.
Likely Landfall At Florida’s Taylor County
Florida’s Taylor County could be the site of Hurricane Helene’s landfall, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said Thursday. Amid that, strict orders of evacuation have been issued for all of Taylor County. Such is the threat of the storm surge that the sheriff of Taylor County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook asking non-evacuees to ink their name on their skin so that their bodies can be identified in the event of death.
