mohammad azharuddin summoned by ed in hyderabad cricket body corruption case

Former cricketer and Congress leader Mohammad Azharuddin has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering case related to financial embellishment of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA).

Azharuddin, who previously served as president of the HCA, is accused of misappropriating funds during his tenure. This is the first time the Congress leader has been summoned by ED in connection with the case.

The 61-year-old former Member of Parliament (MP) has been accused of misappropriation of funds allocated for the procurement of diesel generators, firefighting systems, and canopies for the Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad’s Uppal.

He has been asked to appear before the agency today.

ED had conducted searches in connection with its probe in November last year.

The money laundering case stems from three FIRs and charge sheets filed by the Telangana anti-corruption bureau (ACB) for alleged criminal misappropriation of the funds of the HCA to the tune of Rs 20 crore.
