Bengaluru Traffic Alert: 10-Hour Restriction on Busy Marathahalli Bridge; Check Timings and Diversions
Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Traffic Police has come up with a plan to ease off traffic at Marathahalli Bridge Junction on Varthur Road where a gridlock occurs often, causing trouble to commuters. The spot comes under the jurisdiction of HAL Airport Traffic Police Station. The restriction will be in place for four hours in the morning, and 6 hours in the evening. Officials have also informed commuters of alternative routes.
During the restricted hours, vehicular flow is restricted on the Outer Ring Road from KLM Service Road towards Kundalahalli Gate.
The restrictions are in effect daily during peak hours:
- Morning: 7:00 am to 11:00 am
- Evening: 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm
Alternative Routes:
- Light vehicles can take a U-turn near Akash Vihar Housing and proceed towards Kundalahalli Gate via Marathahalli Bridge.
- Heavy vehicles can take a U-turn at Tulsi Theater Junction and follow the same route.
- Pedestrians are advised to use the skywalk to cross Varthur Road and Old Airport Road during restricted hours.
Commuters Frustrated
Using the stretch had become a nightmare for everyone. Be it the peak hour or 4 in the morning, the Marathahalli Bridge is always packed with vehicles. Several on social media shared how inconvenient it has become to ply on the stretch due to heavy traffic, which causes long hours delays to reach the destination. This led to an uproar by commuters to fix the issue.
This traffic combined with waterlogging issues worsens the situation.
One of the users shared a video of water accumulation in the area, and claimed that the road was never repaired in the past five-six years. “I’ve been seeing the same condition for the past 5-6 years. This street has never been repaired even once. What is stopping you from addressing this issue? The police see this every day, so why don’t they report it to higher authorities?” he wrote.
