Sanjay Manjrekar found himself in hot soup after his controversial remarks on live TV during India’s Women’s T20 World Cup opener against New Zealand. The commentary panel was discussing India’s fielding coach Munish Bali. Manjrekar’s fellow commentator revealed Bali was a former player of Punjab before taking up the role of fielding coach to which Manjrekar said he didn’t recognise him as he is not too aware of players from the north.
“Sorry, meine unko pehechana nahin. North ke players ke saath mere zyaada dhyaan nahin hota. (Sorry, I didn’t recognize him. I am not too aware of players from the North.)”
The remarks did not go well with the netizens who slammed the former cricketer for his bias towards Mumbai cricket. A few called for the immediate sacking of Manjrekar for his controversial remarks.
