A recent study has pointed out that the time at which we eat can be really important in eliminating our risk of diabetes. The study emphasizes on the importance of adopting time-restricted eating (TRE) in helping reduce the risk of diabetes while improving overall metabolic health. As per the research, people who are at risk of acquiring diabetes, may be able to prevent the disease by matching their eating habits to their bodies’ circadian rhythms.

Diabetes has become a growing health concern among people. According to the World Health Organization, around 422 million people have been diagnosed with the same.

For the unversed, the idea behind time-restricted eating is to consume all of your meals in a stipulated amount of time – which is 8-10 hours. Then, you have to fast for the rest of the day. This directly impacts our blood sugar levels.

Also, the study highlights the role of circadian rhythms in controlling our metabolism. It is important to know that our bodies follow a 24-hour biological clock which regulates hormone levels and digestion. It is important that you align your meals with this clock.

Meanwhile, earlier, a team of researchers said that a new injectable solution to prevent and treat hypoglycemia conditions in people with diabetes. The study was published in the journal ACS Central Science. Hypoglycemic is a condition wherein blood sugar levels drop below normal, typically below 70 mg/dL. The condition is most common in people with diabetes who use insulin or other medications to lower blood sugar. Symptoms of the condition include shakiness, sweating, dizziness, confusion and in severe cases, seizures or unconsciousness.

Causes of hypoglycemia could be skipping meals, excessive physical activity or taking too much diabetes medication. Immediate treatment for hypoglycemia is consuming fast-acting carbohydrates like juice or glucose tablets.

The researchers said, “While more studies are needed, the researchers say their proof-of-concept is a first step toward a new on-demand and effective method for preventing or mitigating extremely low blood sugar levels.”
