The Deewaar star Amitabh Bachchan turns 82 today, October 11. Manoj Bajapayee first starred with the veteran actor in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Aks in 2001. Speaking with Zoom, he praised his co-star and revealed how Bachchan has always supported him during his career.
Manoj, Amit ji turns a year older today.
He’s been such an icon on and off the camera. He has inspired so many generations, including mine. The one person whose public etiquette and behavior one would like to emulate is Mr Amitabh Bachchan. And that’s not all.
Tell me.
Apart from all that he has done on the screen, I am one of those guys who has always been inspired from my childhood. And even till now, his passion for acting, his passion for literature, his passion for public speaking, the language….it’s incredible!
What do find most inspiring about him?
There are so many other things about him which is worth emulating. If you just look at his career, till now, the way he battled the bad times, the way he very graciously embraced the success without letting the good times or the bad times go to his head is something that one always tries to impersonate or imitate. I wish him all the luck, all the health in future. He and his family have always been extremely encouraging and supportive.
He once told me that you are the only actor who could do his Zanjeer.
This must have been after he saw me in Shool. After watching Gangs Of Wasseypur, the message he sent me reminded me of the praise he lavished on me after Shool. The Bachchan family has always accepted me as their own.
He continues to work like he did twenty years ago.
At his age, he still comes on the sets with 200 per cent concentration, excitement and curiosity. He has given me the urge to better myself constantly. May he live for another five hundred years, this is all, you know, we can wish and pray for.
