During his New York show, Shawn Mendes honoured Liam Payne, who tragically passed away after a fall from his hotel balcony in Argentina. While performing at Brooklyn’s Paramount Theater, Shawn opened up about his brief encounters with the former One Direction star, calling him a “beautiful soul.”

Speaking to the crowd, Shawn said, “We heard the news about Liam. It felt like… It felt completely devastating. I got to meet him a couple times, and he was a beautiful soul and his eyes gleamed — it was beauty, shining into his eyes.” He went on to express love and prayers for Liam’s family, especially his son, before launching into his new track, filled with emotion.
He added, “It’s about grieving those we miss with tears and it’s also about celebrating them and who they were and what they left in this world and I just want to take a second to send so much love to him, wherever he is up there. Liam, we love you. The world is crying for you, brother, and we’re all praying for your son and your family. I miss you. This one’s for you tonight, Liam, from all of us.”

Details of Liam’s passing
Liam tragically fell from a hotel balcony to his death. Investigators reported his room was in disarray, with signs of alcohol, possible narcotics, and broken furniture scattered around. An autopsy conducted shortly after confirmed the fall caused severe injuries, leading to “multiple trauma” and extensive internal and external bleeding in his skull, chest, abdomen, and limbs.
