New Delhi: Since the demise of Ratan Tata, social media platforms have been flooded with stories and gestures that highlight the lasting impact of the beloved industrialist. Motivational quotes and inspiring sayings attributed to him are being widely shared, touching people from all walks of life. Amid this online buzz, an old video of Tata correcting a journalist has resurfaced and gone viral. The clip captures a candid moment where the former Chairman of Tata Sons refuted a popular quote often credited to him.

In the interview, the journalist asked Tata about the widely circulated quote, “I don’t believe in making the correct decisions. I take decisions and then make them right.” Tata responded with a chuckle, clarifying that the statement wasn’t his.

“I’m sorry, but I have to disappoint you. That quote was made by Facebook or Twitter, not me,” Tata said with a smile. He explained that such misattributed quotes become hard to correct once they spread. “You only find out about these things when someone repeats them back to you. Unfortunately, social media doesn’t allow any way to fix it,” he added.

Tata acknowledged that different people interpret such statements in their own way. “Some think it sounds arrogant, while others see it as profound. But there’s no chance to defend yourself. So, you just stay quiet and move on,” he said.

Tata’s legacy extends beyond his business achievements. Born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, he was known for his sharp business skills and philanthropic efforts. During his tenure as Chairman of Tata Sons, he led the group’s global expansion with significant acquisitions such as Jaguar Land Rover and Tetley. In recognition of his contributions, Tata was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, one of India’s highest civilian honours.
