Hyderabad: Residents of Hyderabad can rest assured as Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) on Wednesday clarified that there will not be any increase in power tariff for low income and middle class households. This goes for the entire state of Telangana. However, Musharraf Ali Faruqui, chairman and managing director of TGSPDCL, said that a modest hike has been recommended for users consuming over 300 units.
Faruqi was attending a public meeting where he assured everyone that no additional financial burden will be imposed on users belonging to the poor and middle class. He stressed that the electricity charges will remain unchanged, quoted by Times of India.
The meeting was held by the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission where the chairman mentioned that they have achieved a milestone by reducing distribution losses to 4.75 per cent. He also highlighted how the commission cut aggregate technical and commercial losses to 19.03 per cent, and decreased the average cost of supply and average realisable revenue from 1.08 to 0.80.

Faruqi said the discom has generated revenue of 6.45 per unit, adding that the overall demand in Telangana has reached 15,623 megawatts. He also gave an update on the development of the TGSPDCL GIS Asset Inspection and Maintenance System app. These applications use advanced technology to enhance transparency in maintenance and repair operations.
During the hearing, opposition leader in the legislative council, S. Madhusudhana Chary, presented his arguments. Speaking to the media afterward, Chary stated, “If this government is truly committed to the state’s interests, it should bear the burden of the proposed price hikes by the discoms by offering subsidies.” He also urged the Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TGERC) to reject the discoms’ proposal to increase electricity charges.
