India’s dominant run came to an end after 12 years and they lost their first home series since 2012. The Rohit Sharma-led side suffered a 113-run defeat against New Zealand in Pune to lose the Test and the series. The Tom Latham-led side kicked off the series with a win in Bengaluru and they registered another win on a spinning track in Pune to conquer the home team.

Tom Latham etched his name in record books and created history by leading New Zealand to a win. Latham is now New Zealand’s first captain to win a Test series in India. New Zealand had first toured India in the 1955/56 season.

While India dominated the proceedings at home, New Zealand enjoyed a dominant run at their home. Finally, NZ punched above their weight to hand a series defeat to India. NZ’s win in the first Test in Bengaluru was their first victory in India in 36 years.

The ongoing series against India is Latham’s first series as the full-time Test captain. He replaced Tim Southee, who stepped down following a 2-0 defeat against Sri Lanka recently. The change in captaincy worked wonders for NZ and they did the unthinkable under Latham.

They will not eye another milestone and will aim to whitewash India at home. The third Test of the series will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from November 1 to 5. India could make a couple of changes in their playing XI.

First home Test series defeat for Rohit Sharma

The series defeat against New Zealand was Rohit’s first loss at home. He replaced Virat Kohli as the captain in 2022. India did not lose a home Test series under Virat Kohli. They only suffered two defeats under his leadership at home. He stepped down as the Test captain in January 2022.
