Israel’s airstrike on Iran faced mixed reactions across the political spectrum of the country.

Israel’s airstrike on Iran is receiving mixed political reactions at home, with some praising the targeted approach while others criticise it. The strikes, part of Israel’s response to Iran’s October 1 missile attack, targeted missile production sites, resulting in the death of two soldiers.

Opposition leader Yair Lapid publicly disagreed with the decision to avoid Iran’s strategic and economic assets, saying, “We could and should have exacted a much heavier price from Iran.” Lapid warned that Iran, as “the head of the axis of evil,” should face stronger consequences.

Tally Gotliv of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Likud party also criticised the operation, labelling it “a grave mistake” not to target Iran’s nuclear sites or oil reserves. She further suggested that US influence, especially under President Biden, had limited Israel’s response, arguing it showed “submission to the Biden administration.”

Netanyahu’s decision to focus on military installations also found approval. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, known for his previous criticisms of Israel’s restrained responses, called this strike “a good beginning” and expressed hope for further targeting of Iranian assets. Yair Golan, leader of the Labor Party, supported the precision of the operation, noting it was effective in “damaging Iran’s capabilities without risking a prolonged conflict.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office dismissed allegations of US pressure influencing the operation. The office issued a statement affirming that “Israel chose the targets ahead of time, based on its national interests and not on American directives.”
