The eyes of the cricketing world are on the Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of the retention deadline, with the future of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav at stake. It is likely that the franchise will release all four players despite the chaotic events of last season, but it is not yet known who is paid how much.
It is more than likely that the five-time champions will have to burn more than half their purse in order to retain the big guns. For those unversed, each team is allowed to retain a maximum of six players (five capped). They can retain a minimum of one or a maximum of two uncapped players.
There are doubts who will captain the side as Hardik’s debut season as skipper saw the team finish last. Suryakumar Yadav is the Indian T20I skipper, and the national team captain not leading an IPL side is a rare phenomenon. However, Rohit coming back to the lead side cannot be ruledout either.
