Jay Shah is all set to take over the role of the ICC chairman on December 1 but before the names of the frontrunners for the top job in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have emerged. With Shah’s departure, the likely contenders are: Gujarat’s Anil Patel and Delhi’s Rohan Jaitley.

Rohan Jaitley: The Front Runner

Late Arun Jaitley’s son Rohan Jaitley has emerged as the frontrunner to become the new BCCI secretary. Rohan, the son of the former Indian finance minister, is currently the President of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). His father held the position for 14 years.

Anil Patel: The Experienced Administrator

Another name doing the rounds is Anil Patel, a respected figure from Gujarat who can bring a wealth of experience to the table. Patel has played a crucial role in strengthening the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) and has maintained a solid record of administrative success within the BCCI.

However, the other BCCI officeholders, including president Roger Binny, are set to retain their roles with one year left in their tenure, which started in 2022.

Talking about Shah, he was first elected as BCCI secretary in 2019 and later won a second term three years later.

The new BCCI secretary will face some important challenges ahead, especially regarding the Indian Premier League (IPL), with a mega auction looming large.
