Hyderabad: A woman, returned from the UK, reached the Film Nagar Police Station in Hyderabad, Telangana, alleging that her husband tortured her by threatening to leak their private pictures. She said that the accused had extorted the money from her, and their marriage was also forced by him.
In her complaint to the police, the woman said that she met the accused on a social media platform. After becoming friends there, the duo started meeting frequently, and fell in love. The accused also promised her that they would marry each other.
Over time, he began asking for money. At one point, she reportedly gave him jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh to use as a gold loan. Later, as she tried to distance herself, he allegedly began blackmailing her, threatening to post private photos online to ruin her reputation.
Under pressure, he forced her into a secret marriage at Arya Samaj. Subsequently, she planned to move to the UK, where he also obtained a dependent visa. However, once there, he allegedly subjected her to both physical and mental abuse.

In a separate incident of crime, a temple in Hyderabad’s Shamshabad area was vandalised, with idols of the Navagraha desecrated by unidentified miscreants, police reported on Tuesday. The temple, situated in the Airport Colony of Shamshabad, drew a crowd of locals who gathered in protest after discovering the damaged idols, demanding justice. Police quickly arrived on the scene to bring the situation under control and have launched an investigation to identify those responsible.
A similar incident occurred in October, when an idol at the Muthyalamma temple in Kurmaguda was damaged.
