North Korea has deployed its army to assist Russia in the war with its neighbour, Ukraine—but they reportedly began fighting different battles even before reaching the combat area. A New York Post report states that soldiers from the reclusive nation, who were given unrestricted internet access for the first time, ended up watching pornography. “A usually reliable source tells me that the North Korean soldiers who have deployed to Russia have never had unfettered access to the internet before. As a result, they are gorging on pornography,” wrote Financial Times foreign affairs commentator Gideon Rachman in a post on X.
However, Rachman did not provide further details on how his source could ascertain the internet habits of approximately 10,000 North Korean troops.
According to France 24, around 10,000 North Korean soldiers are in Russia and are preparing to support operations in the front-line Kursk region. Ukraine’s Defence Minister said on Tuesday that Ukrainian troops had, for the first time, encountered North Korean units.
The North Korean soldiers, integrated with Russian troops, wear similar uniforms, making it difficult to distinguish them, which complicates the task of identifying whether there were any North Korean casualties, Ukraine’s Defence Minister Rustem Umerov told South Korea’s public broadcaster KBS in an interview.
