Mangaluru: A man attempted to end his life along with his 2-year-old child on Gurupura Bridge in Mangaluru but was saved at the last moment by alert motorists. The incident took place on Sunday when the man, identified as Sandeep, a resident of Kaikamba, was seen standing on the bridge, ready to jump with the young child.
According to eyewitnesses, passersby noticed Sandeep on top of the bridge, holding the child in his arms. Realising the gravity of the situation, motorists quickly intervened and managed to pull him back to safety. The crowd, angered by his actions, reportedly beat him up for putting the child’s life at risk.
Preliminary investigations by the Bajpe police suggest that Sandeep’s drastic step was driven by a family dispute. An officer from Bajpe police station confirmed, “The incident appears to be related to ongoing family issues. We are currently probing the matter to understand the full circumstances.”
Both Sandeep and the child were unharmed, but the incident left the onlookers shaken. Police are now investigating the family dispute that led to this desperate act.
