India’s 2012 U-19 World Cup-winning captain Unmukt Chand is set to go under the hammer in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) Mega Auction which will take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah. Chand is among 574 players that have been shortlisted to go under the hammer.

Chand will be looking to secure a first-ever IPL contract since 2016, when he played for Mumbai Indians (MI). Chand was part of the Mumbai-based outfit during the 2015 title-winning campaign too. He previously played for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) from 2011 to 2013 while playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 2014 season.

Chand played a total of 21 IPL matches in his career and scored 300 runs at an average of 15.00 with a strike-rate of 100.

Unmukt Chand – An Overseas Player

Chand has been registered in the 2025 IPL Mega Auction as a United States of America (USA) player. This means he will have to be picked as a foreign player and has to be purchased by a team within their eight overseas slots. The 32-year-old will come under the hammer in the 6th Uncapped Wicket-Keeper list.

In August 2021, Chand announced his retirement from Indian cricket and decided to shift base to USA and play as a local player in the American cricketing eco-system. This meant that he was no longer eligible to play for India as he decided to try playing for the American national team. This means that Chand no longer counted as Indian player in the IPL roaster and was not eligible to play for the Indian cricket team.

Chand has been eligible to play for the USA national cricket team since last year but has not been called-up yet and missed out on making their 2024 T20 World Cup squad, which included many Indian-born layers like skipper Monak Patel, Saurabh Netravalkar, Harmeet Singh, and Milind Kumar.

Netravalar was among the best players in the mega event last year but will not be part of the auction.
