KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • AJ Styles attacked Cody Rhodes on Smackdown
  • He faked his retirement like Mark Henry
  • Styles is expected to face Cody at Clash at the Castle

This week’s Smackdown ended on a shocking note as AJ Styles attacked Cody Rhodes during the main event segment. The show was built around Styles addressing his future and he was given the main event to talk to the WWE Universe. As Styles was sharing his thoughts, he also called out Cody and said that his match against him at WWE Backlash was one of the best.

As Cody was raising Styles’ hand to huge applause from the crowd, the former WWE Champion attacked the Undisputed WWE Champion. It’s clear that Styles wants a rematch against Cody at any cost and their match could take place at Clash at the Castle 2024.

Styles’ actions reminded the WWE Universe of Mark Henry‘s fake retirement in 2013. The WWE legend had delivered a retirement speech on Raw before attacking John Cena.

Why Styles attacked Cody?

Styles recently asked Nick Aldis, the Smackdown’s General Manager, for a rematch against Cody but was denied permission. The future WWE Hall of Famer had no other option but to attack Cody. Cody successfully defended his title against Styles at Backlash in France.

The WWE is expected to confirm this match next week. The Smackdown before Clash at the Castle will also take place in Scotland. The premium live event will take place on June 15.

Other matches for Clash at Castle

WWE has already announced that Damian Priest will defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Drew McIntyre. This match is expected to be the main event. Drew won the title at Wrestlemania 40 but lost it just five minutes later after Damian cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase.

Drew is expected to win a world championship for the first time. He is a two-time WWE Champion and a one-time World Heavyweight Champion. Bayley will defend her WWE Women’s Championship against Piper Nevin. Liv Morgan is also expected to defend her championship at the event.

Since it’s an overseas premium live event, it will be interesting to see if there’s a surprising debut or comeback or not. It was at the Clast the Castle 2022 that Solo Sikoa made his main roster debut. He assisted Roman Reigns during his title match against McIntyre.

Roman has been out of action since Wrestlemania 40 and could make a shocking return at the premium live event. Seth Rollins is out of action and will not return during the Scotland show.
