India head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma together will look to continue India’s juggernaut in world cricket. Gambhir was roped in as India’s head coach following the exit of Rahul Dravid after the T20 World Cup. The Gambhir-Rohit partnership will be in charge of five ICC events, including Champions Trophy 2025, T20 World Cup 2026, ODI World Cup 2027, and WTC, and would look to stamp India’s authority as the world beaters in international cricket.

Both Gambhir and Rohit have proven their credentials as credible leaders. Gambhir boasts of a stunning record as a mentor and coach and led KKR to the IPL 2024 title. Meanwhile, under Rohit, India tasted a lot of success and reached the final of the ODI World Cup and also ended their ICC trophy drought by winning the T20 World Cup.

Ahead of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, ace India spinner R Ashwin revealed the difference between the leadership styles of Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir. Ashwin highlighted that Gautam Gambhir is very intense while Rohit loves to keep things light.

“Gauti bhai is very intense. There are similarities between Rohit and Gauti bhai’s leadership, but Rohit keeps it light. Gauti bhai is an intense person,” Ashwin said to Vimal Kumar.

Ashwin further praised Gautam Gambhir and said he is very passionate about Indian cricket. Comparing Gambhir’s style of leadership with Rahul Dravid, Ashwin said the former cricketers turned coaches are very different but it is something that should be encouraged as every individual has his own method of working.

“He (Gambhir) is very passionate about Indian cricket, just like Rahul (Dravid) bhai. Both are very passionate about Indian cricket, but we believe both are different. Yes, they have different personalities. But people are like, ‘MS Dhoni was cool, so everyone should be cool’. It isn’t like that. Everyone has their own methods, and we should encourage that,” said Ashwin further.

Meanwhile, Ashwin will return to action in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Ashwin has been away from international cricket since March when he played the Test series against England.
