Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Transgender Welfare Board or Kinnar Welfare Board Vice President Sonam Chishti on Friday resigned from the post taking responsibility of Bharatiya Janata Party’s poor performance in recently held Lok Sabha elections in the state. Notably, Chishti held the post which was of State Minister rank.

Chishti said she was unable to reach out to the public in Lok Sabha polls for BJP and after her resignation from the post, she will work with party organisation to strengthen it.

“Following the recent general elections held in the year 2024, where the performance of the Bharatiya Janata Party in various districts/constituencies has led to defeat, I take responsibility for this outcome despite holding the rank of State Minister. I am deeply distressed by this internally and hence tender my resignation,” Chishti wrote in her resignation letter to Governor of Uttar Pradesh.

“Thereafter, I pledge to continue working within the organization to strengthen the Bharatiya Janata Party and faithfully execute any responsibilities entrusted to me by the Bharatiya Janata Party, Uttar Pradesh. Kindly accept my resignation,” she added.

Speaking exclusively to Times Now, Sonam Chishti raises questions on the working of officers close to CM Yogi Adityanath. She said, “No one is listening to her in the government. From past three years, officers have been ignoring her and the instructions given by Chief Minister.”

She said that they (people in BJP) are unable to take moral responsibility and hence she’s taking responsibility being a transgender.

Chishti also called the order of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand government a Talibani order related to Kanwar Yatra.

“It’s unconstitutional and the government should follow the constitution,” Chishti added.
