As Diwali festivities have begun in India, the Western Railway (WR) have come up with the operation over 250 special trains for the Diwali and Chhath Puja festive season. According to the Indian Railways, more than 120 trains will run on Tuesday, October 29.
This is not the first time that such measures have been taken. Every year, the Indian Railways experiences high passenger demand on the occasion of Diwali and Chhath Puja and this is when they introduce special trains.
Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, informed that to meet the rising passenger demand during the festivals, Western Railway and Central Railway are running additional festival special trains.
Out of these, nearly 40 trains will be managed by the Mumbai Division, including 22 trains specifically travelling to popular destinations in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Odisha. Here is the full list.

On the other hand, the Eastern Railways have also announced that it is operating 50 special trains and providing 400 additional services during Diwali and Chhath Puja. Kaushik Mitra, the Eastern Railways PRO informed that Eastern Railway has increased the number of special trains from 33 to 50 this year.
“Eastern railway is running more trains this year than the last year for this festive season – Diwali and Chhath. Last year the number of special trains was 33, this year it has increased to 50,” Mitra said.
