India are all set to take on Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County Stadium in New York on June 9. For the first time ever, one of the most epic rivalries in world cricket will be played out on the shores of USA. Fans of both the sides will hope for a full match. However, there is a threat of the rain gods disrupting the match. With India already having a win under their belt, and Pakistan losing against USA, the situations for both teams will be different should rain wash out the encounter.
According to Accuweather.com, the weather is expected to be dicey, with 100% cloud cover throughout the duration of the game. However, there is little to no chance of rainfall. Given the cloudy conditions, the weather ca change at any moment as rain will half the encounter.
The cut-off time to start a full 20-over game is 9.30 PM IST. After that, overs will start getting cut. In case rain completely washes out the encounter, then there is no reserve day. Hence, both teams will be awarded one point each.
In that case, Pakistan will have one point from two games, while India will have three points from two games.This would mean that Pakistan will remain in the fourth position in the Group A table, and wins from their final two games, can guarantee them a place in the Super 8, should USA and Canada lose both their remaining games. On the other hand, India would more or less guarantee a spot for themselves if they win any one of their two remaining matches against USA and Canada.
India Start Off With Win
India won the toss and elected to bowl against Ireland at New York. The Indian bowlers were on fire as they kept picking on wickets at regular intervals. The Irish team were bowled out for 96 runs, with only Gareth Delaney showing some resistance with a 26-run knock. Hardik Pandya led the pack with 3 wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh picking 2 wickets each.
Rohit Sharma led the chase with a half-century, with Rishabh Pant also playing a great hand of 36 runs from 26 balls, as they won by 8 wickets.
Shocking Start For Pakistan
After putting in to bat first, Pakistan were restricted to 159, that too courtesy a 74-run stand between Babar Azam and Shadab Khan, and a late flurry of runs from Shaheen Afridi. Nosthush Kenjige was the star for USA with the ball with 3 wickets. On the other hand, captain Monank Patel’s half-century guided USA to the 159 as well, as the match went into the Super Over.
In the Super Over, Mohammad Amir conceded 19 runs, while USA bowler Saurabh Netravalkar conceded only 14, as USA registered the most important win in their cricket history.
