The father of the trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has suggested that his daughter might have been killed elsewhere and her body later moved to the seminar hall. This comment follows allegations that recent renovations near the seminar hall were intended to destroy crucial evidence.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, the victim’s father expressed doubts about whether the murder actually took place in the seminar hall, suggesting it could have occurred in another location. He noted lapses in the police investigation and has reported these concerns to the CBI, while maintaining trust in their inquiry and demanding severe punishment for the perpetrators.
The 31-year-old doctor was discovered on August 9 in a semi-naked state with multiple injuries. Her father expressed deep grief and highlighted the global movement seeking justice for his daughter, stating, “One of my daughters is gone, but I feel that thousands of crores of my sons and daughters are on the streets right now. There is a movement from Bangladesh to the entire world. We want justice.”
On Friday, the Calcutta High Court questioned the Bengal government about the “urgency” of the renovations near the crime scene. The state government responded by stating that the renovations were intended to construct a restroom for doctors and that the allegations of tampering with evidence were unfounded.
The situation escalated on Wednesday night when a violent mob stormed the hospital, vandalising the emergency ward, a ward on the first floor, and the ENT department. These actions have lent credibility to the claims that there was an attempt to destroy the crime scene.
Additionally, on Friday, the victim’s parents informed the CBI that they suspect the involvement of multiple interns and physicians from the hospital in their daughter’s murder. The CBI has been given names of potential suspects who worked with the victim, adding further complexity to the investigation.
