With an ICC event virtually every year, time moves quite quickly in cricket, and the focus of the sporting fraternity at the moment is on the 2024 T20 World Cup with the blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York just hours away, but it will not be an exaggeration to say that the clock of Indian cricket fans is still stuck on November 19, 2023.

Last year, the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team had one of the most dominant campaigns in World Cup history on home soil as they stormed to the 2023 Cricket World Cup final on home soil with 10 wins in a row. With form, momentum, and confidence on their side, there was expectation that the Men in Blue would end their decade-long drought without a global title.

However, they were given a rude shock at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as Australia outclassed the home side to break Indian hearts with a comfortable six-wicket victory to lift the title for a record-extending sixth time in history.

Rishabh Pant Opens Up 2023 World Cup Final

Rishabh Pant has opened up India’s defeat in the summit clash and made a bold claim, stating that the story of the game would have been completely different had he played the match. Pant stated that his batting approach would have resulted in a drastically different outcome.

“If I had played the 2023 Cricket World Cup Final then, we would have either been all out for 150 or 200 runs or would have scored over 300+ runs,” said Pant on India’s TV Aap Ki Adalat Show.

For those unversed, the 2024 T20 World Cup marks Pant’s return to the national team after 18 monts following his near fatal car accident. Pant missed 15 months of cricket which included the 2023 World Cup. He made his comeback to professional cricket in the 2024 IPL for Delhi Capitals (DC).

As far as the 2023 World Cup final is concerned, India posted a total of 240 on the board after Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bowl first. Australia chased down the target with seven overs to spare as Travis Head scored a memorable ton.
