  • Dhawan announced that he will be participating in the Legends League Cricket.

The 39-year old Dinesh Karthik, a top white-ball finisher for India, has officially joined Legends League Cricket (LLC), ushering in a new phase of his distinguished career. After retiring from both international and domestic cricket earlier this year, he is shifting from his dynamic batting and precise wicket-keeping to the Legends League, where he will keep entertaining fans with his expertise.

“Playing at the Legends League Cricket is definitely something I am looking forward to after my retirement. I am up to the task both mentally and physically and look forward to playing the brand of cricket I have always enjoyed. Most importantly, to the fans, thank you for your constant support and I hope to entertain you once again on the field,” Karthik said in an official statement.

Karthik has made notable impacts across various formats. He played 180 matches for India, scoring 3,463 runs, including one Test century and 17 half-centuries, along with 172 dismissals, primarily as a wicketkeeper. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), he amassed 4,842 runs in 257 games, with 22 fifties, and represented six different teams. His IPL career started with the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2008, and he later played for Punjab, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

DK’s move to Legends League Cricket reflects a rising trend among former cricket stars, such as Aaron Finch, Martin Guptill, and Hashim Amla, who have also joined the league after their careers. The upcoming season of Legends League Cricket is set to commence in September 2024, showcasing a roster of retired cricket icons battling it out in a series of thrilling games.

The LLC auction, taking place on September 29, 2024, in New Delhi, will feature teams competing for elite players from both domestic and international cricket as they will be up for grabs.
