A former White House advisor and chief strategist for Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign sparked speculation about JD Vance‘s future as Donald Trump‘s running mate by suggesting that the former president might reconsider his choice amid a series of controversies. This comes as the Ohio senator’s old social media posts and statements have surfaced, leading to severe backlash. Paul Beagla further added that Trump might be feeling remorse over choosing Vance even as so many other options were available.
Several House Republicans are reportedly bashing Trump’s selections of JD Vance in private. They are worried that the pick will hurt the former president’s campaign in November. Some of them spoke to The Hill, raising concerns about the Ohio Senator’s foreign policy positions, lack of experience and inability to expand the Republican coalition beyond Trump’s base.
Donald Trump has time and again praised Vance, declaring that his running mate is ‘doing a fantastic job’. However, Beagla, who recently appeared on CNN, said that the Republican nominee might be considering replacing Vance and getting his former UN Ambassador, Nikki Haley, on the ticket.
Talking about Trump’s choice, one House Republican told The Hill: “He was the worst choice of all the options. It was so bad I didn’t even think it was possible. Anti-Ukraine, more of a populist. He adds nothing to the Trump ticket. He energizes the same people that love Trump.”
“I think if you were to ask many people around this building, 9 out of 10 on our side would say he’s the wrong pick. He’s the only person who can do serious damage,” a second one added.
