Kangana Ranaut has kickstarted her political innings after emerging victorious from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. The actress-turned politician will now be elgible for the salary and perks of a Member Of Parliament (MP). Let’s take a look at all the benefits an MP gets –

Monthy Salary

An MP earns a basic salary of Rs 1 lakh per month. This amount was set after a pay hike in 2018 to keep up with inflation and the rising cost of living.

Below are the allowances and perks –

Constituency Allowance

Kangana will get Rs 70,000 per month as a constituency allowance to cover expenses for maintaining offices and engaging with voters in her area.

Office Expenses

The Queen actress will receive Rs 60,000 per month for office expenses, which includes costs for stationery, telecommunications, staff salaries, and more.

Daily Allowance

During parliamentary sessions and committee meetings, Kangana will get a daily allowance of Rs 2,000 for lodging, food, and other expenses while in the national capital.

Travel Allowance

All MPs are entitled to 34 free domestic air journeys per year for themselves and their immediate families. They also get free first-class train travel for official and personal purposes and can claim mileage allowances for road travel within their constituencies.

Housing And Accommodation

MPs are provided rent-free accommodations in prime areas during their 5-year term, including bungalows, flats, or hostel rooms based on seniority. Those who don’t use official accommodation can claim a housing allowance of Rs 2,00,000 per month.

Medical Facilities

Kangana and her immediate families receive free medical care under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), which includes treatment at government and select private hospitals.

Other Perks

MPs are allotted up to 1,50,000 free telephone calls annually and receive free high-speed internet connections at their residences and offices. They are provided with up to 50,000 units of free electricity and 4,000 kilolitres of free water annually.
