Kashmir Schools Closed, Holiday Declared till July 30 Due to Heatwave

Schools in Kasmir will be closed for two days due to severe heatwave. Kashmir authorities have announced to close down all schools upto primary classes. The schools will be closed on July 29 and July 30, 2024. The valley is reeling under an unprecedented heat wave with no immediate relief from soaring summers. The temperature in Srinagar have reached 36.2 degree this time, making it highest in decade. This was hottest July day since July 9, 1999 when the mercury had settled at 37 degrees Celsius.

Before this Kashmir Schools were closed between July 8 and July 17, 2024 for summer vacations. The break timing aligned with the Meteorological Department’s forecast. In the official order, DSEK said, “It is ordered that all the government and private recognised schools upto higher secondary level functioning in the Kashmir Division shall observe summer vacation 08th July, 2024 to 17th July 2024.” Kashmir Schools earlier reopened on July 18. Parents were demanding atleast a week extention in view of the scorching heat.

In the official order, DSEK said, “It is ordered that all the government and private recognised schools upto higher secondary level functioning in the Kashmir Division shall observe summer vacation 08th July, 2024 to 17th July 2024.”

Jammu Schools reopened on July 17

All government and private schools observed holiday between June 1 and July 16, 2024 in summer zone areas of the region. Following this order, Jammu schools reopened on July 17, 2024.
