Four terrorists, including a top commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen, were killed in an ongoing anti-terror operation in the Chingam area of Yaripora in Kulgam district in south Kashmir on Saturday. Among the deceased was Farooq Ahmad Bhat, also known as Nali, a long-serving member of Hizbul Mujahideen.

The anti-terror operation continues at Chingam.

This came even as an Army jawan was killed during an encounter in Kulgam’s Modergam village earlier on Saturday. The operation in Modergam was initiated following credible intelligence reports about the presence of at least two terrorists in the area. During the initial exchange of gunfire, the soldier sustained critical injuries and later succumbed to his wounds, as confirmed by a senior police official.

“The encounter began when terrorists opened fire on the joint team of police and security forces,” stated the police. In response, army personnel engaged in retaliatory gunfire.

The affected areas have been cordoned off, and additional reinforcements have been deployed to ensure the safety of civilians. The Army, Police, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are conducting these coordinated anti-terror operations.

Efforts remain focused on securing the region and minimising risks to civilians as the operations continue to unfold. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
