LeBron James and his son Bronny James scripted NBA history as they became the first father-son duo to play together. The historic moment happened at the start of the second quarter in the Los Angeles Lakers’ NBA pre-season game against Phoenix Suns at Acrisure Arena in the Coachella Valley.
LeBron had this long desire to share the court with his eldest son and the Lakers drafted Bronny as the second pick in the summer, paving the way for the NBA legend to finally fulfil his long pending wish.
Bronny didn’t have the smoothest basketball career as he suffered a cardiac arrest last year and since then played for Southern California before entering the draft. LeBron hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down as the 39 year old committed to another two seasons with the Lakers as he signed a new two year deal earlier this year reportedly worth $101.35 million.
“It’s surreal,” as quoted by AP Lakers coach JJ Redick said “It’ll be fun when they’re on the court together. I’m excited about it. I’m very honored that I get to be part of history.”
Bronny didn’t score in his 4 minutes of action and he is expected to have a smooth transition into the NBA. The 20 year old is likely to spend much time with the South Bay Lakers of the G League in a bid to improve his game.
LeBron amassed 19 points with five rebounds and four assists in the first half and wasn’t involved in the second half as he watched from the bench alongside Anthony Davis. The Lakers lost the match 118-114.
The Lakers are scheduled to play four more pre-season games away from home as the Crypto.com Arena is currently under renovation. They will open their NBA campaign at their home arena against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
