Maharashtra Elections: Fadnavis Couple Grew Richer By Rs 4.57 Crore Over Five Years

According to the poll affidavit filed by Fadnavis, the income of his banker wife Amruta’s rose manifold over a decade.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis filed his nomination on Friday, the fourth day of filing nominations in ensuing Maharashtra assembly polls. Several top politicians, including Krishna Khopde from Nagpur East, Atul Save from Aurangabad East, Sanjay Shirshat from Aurangabad West were among the 991 aspirants who filed their nominations on the day. So far, the Election Commission has received 1,288 applications since Tuesday.

According to the poll affidavit filed by Fadnavis, the income of his banker wife Amruta’s rose manifold over a decade. In 2014-15 fiscal, Fadnavis declared an income of Rs 1.24 lakh, his wife had an income of Rs 18.27 lakh. This amount soared to Rs 38.73 lakh and Rs 79.30 lakh respectively in the 2023-24 fiscal, according to TOI.

The BJP leader has also declared Rs 1.66 crore between the 2019-20 and 2023-24 fiscals, while his wife earned Rs 5.05 crore in the same period. In his poll affidavit, Fadnavis also declared about a loan worth Rs 62 lakh and four pending criminal cases.

The couple’s wealth grew richer by Rs 4.57 crore over five years, as per poll affidavits of 2019 and 2024. While the couple owns assets of Rs 13.27 crore, including land and 1.35kg of gold of Rs 99 lakh, they currently do not own a car.

Amruta has declared vast portfolio of investments in the share market and mutual funds, which has given a significant jump in five years. In 2019, Amruta owned shares and mutual funds of Rs 2.33 crore, which rose to Rs 5.62 crore in 2024.

In 2019, Fadnavis had Rs 45.94 lakh in movable assets, while was significantly lesser than Rs 3.39 crore of movable assets declared by his wife. The couple has declared combined assets to Rs 7.52 crore by 2024. Similarly, the movable assets declared by Fadnavis rose to Rs 5.63 crore in 5 years.

Fadnavis has identified himself as a social worker and a farmer, while his wife is a professional, as per poll affidavit.

The poll affidavit also revealed Fadnavis, who completed his law degree in 1992, also completed a management diploma in Methods and Techniques of Project Management from Berlin University.

Fadnavis has been the Chief Minister of Maharashtra since 30 June 2022, alongside NCP’d Ajit Pawar. He previously held the position of Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 31 October 2014 to 12 November 2019.
