marwa osman journalist breaks down live on air upon hearing about nasrallah's death - video

In a major blow to Hezbollah and its regional ally Iran, the group’s chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli airstrike. A purported video of a journalist breaking down live on air upon hearing about Nasrallah’s death surfaced on social media and soon went viral.

In the video, Marwa Osman, a journalist at Iranian state-owned news agency Press TV, was seen live with RT television news network. The journalist, before hearing the Hezbollah leader’s death news, was elaborating her views on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). “Imagine if the Russian President Vladimir Putin is at the UNGA event and announces a targeted attack in the capital of Ukraine, all hell would have broken. Now, remember what Netanyahu did at UNGA in New York,” said Marwa Oswan said.

As Marwa Osman was speaking, the RT news anchor interrupts her to inform about Hezbollah’s confirmation regarding group’s chief Nasrallah’s death. “We do now have the confirmation from the Hezbollah group on the death of Hassan Nasrallah,” says the RT anchor and asks for Oswan’s response. Upon hearing about the death confirmation, Oswan breaks down into dears and leaves the live interview.

Earlier, a similar video of Lebanese television news anchor breaking down live on air while announcing the death of Nasrallah had also surfaced on social media. New anchor believed to be associated with the Hezbollah-affiliated media network, Al Mayadeen, was struggling to find words to announce the Hezbollah leader’s death. The anchor’s voice was cracking as she read the news.

Shortly after the Israeli forces claimed to have ‘eliminated’ Nasrallah in an airstike, the Iran-backed group confirmed that its leader and one of its founding members, Nasrallah, was dead.

“His Eminence, the Master of Resistance, the righteous servant, has passed away to be with his Lord and to be pleased with Him as a great martyr, a heroic, bold, brave, wise, insightful, and faithful leader, joining the caravan of martyrs of the eternal, luminous Karbala in the divine path of faith in the footsteps of the prophets and imams Martyrs,” Hezbollah said in a statement.

How Israel Executed Operation ‘New Order’

Targeting Nasrallah, Israel on Friday launched a major strike on Hezbollah’s Beirut headquarters. Several high-rise buildings were destroyed by the air strikes in the southern suburbs of Beirut. Visuals released by the Israeli Air Force showed buildings being reduced to rubble within seconds.

“Fighter jets of Israel Air Force under the precise intelligence guidance of the intelligence wing and the defence system, attacked the central headquarters of Hezbollah, which is located underground, under a residential building in the Daha area of Beirut,” Israel said in a statement on Saturday.

Israel also released video of the control room from where the senior officials monitored the entire operation. “The Chief of the General Staff commands the operation to eliminate the leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, in the Israeli Air Force command center with the members of the General Staff Forum,” the Israeli Air Force said.

“The attack was carried out while the top brass of Hezbollah were at the headquarters and engaged in coordinating terrorist activities against the citizens of Israel,” it claimed.

What Netanyahu Said On Nasrallah’s Killing

In his first public remarks since the killing, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel’s targeting of Nasrallah was “an essential condition to achieving the goals we set.” “He wasn’t another terrorist. He was the terrorist,” Netanyahu said about Nasrallah, as he warned Iran against trying any retaliatory strike. “There is no place in Iran or in the Middle East that Israel’s long arm cannot reach. And today you know how much that is true,” Netanyahu warned.

The Lebanese Health Ministry said six people were killed and 91 injured in the strikes Friday that levelled six apartment buildings. Ali Karki, the commander of Hezbollah’s Southern Front, and other commanders were also killed, the Israeli military said.
