We had earlier reported that a slate of old classic films of actors Mohanlal and Mammootty were gearing up for a theatrical re-release. The re-release fever has gripped the Malayalam industry after the practice of re-releasing successful hits proved to be a successful experiment in Tamil.

As Mohanlal’s cult classic Devadoothan, directed by Siby Malayil, is gearing up for re-release, fans were treated to a remastered trailer of the cult hit film, which was officially released online by the makers on July 9, Tuesday. Along with the trailer, the makers also released an animated announcement video to reveal the re-release date of the film to be July 26.

New Visuals, New Feel

Director Siby Malayil had taken to his official Facebook handle recently to share the exciting news of the film’s re-release a few days ago by unveiling the re-release poster that said “New visuals, new soundings, new feels… experience it in theatres.” The poster was also shared by Mohanlal on his social media handles. The makers had also released an official release poster for the film just a few days ago.

The announcement had sparked a wave of excitement among fans, eagerly awaiting the chance to relive the magic of Devadoothan, which released in 2000, on the big screen again. However, the film did not do too well at the box office despite garnering positive reviews in its stride. The film went on to garner a massive fan base in the years that followed, especially for its opening title sequence featuring the classical Saint Thyagaraja composition Endharu Mahanubhavulu re-imagined and orchestrated by music director Vidyasagar.

A Supernatural Love Story

Devadoothan, a supernatural love story, with a screenplay by Raghunath Paleri, narrates the tale of Vishal Krishnamoorthy (played by Mohanlal), a celebrated music composer haunted by an enigmatic spirit that inspires his compositions. The film also starred Jaya Prada, Vineeth Kumar, Murali, Jagathy Sreekumar, and Jagadish in pivotal roles.
