Mumbai: The Chheda Nagar Flyover in Mumbai was opened for motorists on Friday by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The flyover was aims to ease the traffic congestion at the Chheda Nagar intersection on the Eastern Express Highway. Along with that, the CM also attended Bhumi Poojan ceremony of Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) connector (U-turn) bridge earlier today in Kurla, Mumbai.

The south-north carriageway on Chheda Nagar Junction is built by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). This cricial portion is a of the larger Chheda Nagar junction improvement project that started in 2017. The new flyover has already hit several milestones. One of them is the 2022 opening of an elevated road connecting the existing north-south Chheda Nagar flyover to the Amar Mahal flyover.

Another flyover, crossing over Chheda Nagar junction from Indian Oil Corporation on the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road (GMLR) to the Thane-bound lanes, opened in April 2023. Over 60,000 vehicles pass through the Chheda Nagar junction daily. The final phase of the project, a 680-metre-long south-north flyover, will help ease traffic from Amar Mahal towards Vikhroli.

The Chheda Nagar junction has long been a major bottleneck, Vehicles often have to wait for 20 to 30 minutes on the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road and Eastern Express Highway, particularly for those heading towards Thane.

On Friday, CM Shinde also paid a visit to Navi Mumbai International Airport when it received its first inaugural flight. The IAF C-295 made the landing at the Navi Mumbai Airport. It must be noted that commercial operations will start from next year at the new airport. While addressing people in the event, he said the newly inaugurated airport would prove a boon for the people.

“Navi Mumbai Airport will prove to be a boon for the people. Today C-295 successfully landed at Navi Mumbai Airport. The Airport will be named Lokneta DB Patil Navi Mumbai International Airport,” he said.

CM Eknath Shinde also flew in the aircraft. “This will be the largest airport, which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister, and today the first runway’s test landing has taken place,” CM Shinde added.

  • Inauguration of Hanuman Mandir Udyan renovation and beautification work at Tilak Nagar.
  • Commencement of renovation and beautification work of Nana-Nani Park and Kindergarten at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Playground, Nehrunagar.
  • Commencement of road cement concreting work in Kurla Assembly.
  • Inauguration of second phase sewerage works in Mhada Colony, Nehrunagar, Tilak Nagar.
  • Honorable Balasaheb Thackeray inaugurating his hospital near Kurla East Railway Station. On this occasion, MLA Mangesh Kudalkar, former MP Rahul Shewale and all Shiv Sena office bearers and activists of Kurla assembly constituency were present in large numbers.
