Time travel — whether journeying into the past or exploring the future — has long captivated the imagination of humanity, including the world of cinema.

Countless films have explored this theme, featuring various methods for traversing time, from complex time machines to accidental powers or supernatural forces.

In one such story, Murphy achieves time travel through an old radio — not a ham radio typically used for two-way communication, but a regular one with a speaker. The creators openly present it as a work of fantasy, reminding viewers that its logic and science are purely fictional.

Murphy synopsis:

In the picturesque village of Aldona, Goa, David, a young student, is navigating life while staying with his grandfather. Amidst the lush greenery and peaceful surroundings, David treasures the small joys — his girlfriend, a few close friends — but he often feels the ache of losing his father in a tragic road accident during his childhood. Among his grandfather’s cherished possessions is an old radio, a symbol of nostalgia and memory.

One rainy afternoon, while his grandfather is away, David decides to tinker with the radio. As he adjusts the dials and fiddles with the antenna, he experiences something utterly unexpected—a cross-connection. To his shock, the radio starts receiving transmissions from the year 1996. David, living in 2024, finds himself communicating with someone from a quarter-century in the past.

What follows is an intriguing blend of drama, fantasy, and heartwarming moments. The mysterious connection between the two timelines reveals a story of love, sacrifice, and the enduring power of human emotions, bridging the gap between past and present.

Murphy analysis:

Though the concept of time travel, fantasies surrounding similar genre has been tried and tested on numerous occasions on the big screen, Murphy stands out for its unique presentation.

The director BSP Varma keeps it simple and elegant as Murphy travels through time back and forth with some pleasant memories which makes the audience fall in love and cherish the moments both from the past and as well as the present.

The making of Murphy is what strikes the most apart from the ever-exciting aspect of time travel. Well, time travel, too, is restricted only for communication.

David’s father is Murphy, and how well it connects the dots from the past is pretty well conceived in the writing. The soothing music and the sound quality makes Murphy a seamless experience.

Murphy performances:

Prabhu Mundkur delivers a decent performance, skillfully navigating a range of emotions. He performs it to good effect, the transitions from portraying a stubborn grandson to a boyfriend, and his attempt to reshape the future through the concept of the ‘Domino effect’.

Roshini Prakash is equally captivating, bringing depth to her character from a different time period. The theme of love and romance weaves through both timelines, creating a nostalgic connection. Meanwhile, Dattanna delivers a standout performance, showcasing his signature excellence.

Murphy final take:

Are you a fan of time travel, with a soft spot for romantic dramas that delve deep into human emotions? If so, Murphy is a must-watch. The film stands out for its impressive storytelling and strong performances, making it a memorable experience.
