  • Raina is regarded one of greatest IPL players in history

Suresh Raina made a huge remark and labeled the Indian cricket legend as the greatest of all-time (GOAT) during a rapid-fire question and answer session. Raina is currently playing for the India Champions in the ongoing World Championship of Legends (WCL) tournament in Birminghan, England.

Raina is among the finest white-ball cricketers that India has ever produced and also one of the greatest players in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Raina was an integral part of the Indian team that won the 2011 Cricket World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni‘s captaincy. He also played a key role in Chennai Super Kings (CSK) winning the IPL title in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021, as well as the Champions League T20 in 2010 and 2014.

In a video on TV anchor Shefali Bagga’s Instagram channel, Raina was asked to name which cricketer comes to mind when hearing a word. On the ‘GOAT’ term, the 2011 World Cup winner is named MS Dhoni.

Dhoni is India’s most successful skipper in white-cricket ever, as he is the only captain in the world to win all three ICC white-ball senior events. Apart from the 2011 and 2013 triumphs, Dhoni also led India to the 2007 T20 World Cup. Dhoni is also the joint most successful captain in IPL history, having led CSK to five IPL titles.

For those unaware, Raina and Dhoni share a close bond and friendship. Raina played under Dhoni’s captaincy for the majority of his international career for Team India. He also played for the Dhoni-led CSK from 2008 to 2021.

Dhoni and Raina retired from international cricket on the same day. Raina announced he was bidding farewell to international cricket just hours after Dhoni’s emotional announcement of his decision to quit international cricket on August 15, 2020.

In the same video, Raina replied Jasprit Bumrah as a ‘death overs specialist,’ Michael Hussey as ‘Consistent’ Shikhar Dhawan as ‘Desi Boy, Virat Kohli as ‘King’ and ‘Run Machine’, Mohammed Shami as ‘Speed’, Yuvraj Singh as ‘Most Stylish.’
