Pune Railway Station Upgrade, Mumbai Ghat Section Alignment: Centre to Carry Out Mega Revamp Soon (Image Source: PTI, ANI)
Pune: Union Railways Ministry is planning to upgrade Pune Railway Station by installing modern amenities. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday inspected the area, and took note of the challenges that may occur while carrying out the renovation work as the establishment is currently operational. The minister added that the ministry will focus on protecting the station’s heritage during the revamp. He said the authorities will be completing work on the station in multiple phases to cause minimum disruption to train operations.
“How to develop Pune Railway Station to increase amenities and capacities, while also protecting its heritage. These were the things we discussed during inspection. We will do it phase-wise as it is a running station, an important one…,” Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday told media persons.
Uruli Mega Terminal
Along with that, the authorities, during the inspection today, discussed how to increase the overall capacity of Pune. “The Ahmednagar line from Pune was also reviewed today, and the work is progressing well. We also contemplated how to build a mega terminal in Uruli, which is close to Pune. It is important to increase Pune’s capacity as its population has reached 50-60 lakh. With that it has become bigger than a metropolitan city.,” he added.

The minister also addressed the gradient issue at the Mumbai-Pune Ghat Section. He mentioned that there is a 1:37 gradient as of now, due to which, the authorities have to install bankers. However, the officials today discussed the new alignment, using which, the gradient can be improved to 1:100, and the ghat section can become smooth.
