Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has said that Rohit Sharma should learn the way to bring in a bowling change when the opponent batters are going all guns blazing, much like what former India captain MS Dhoni did during his leadership days. His comments came after India failed to restrict New Zealand to a low total on Day 3 of the first Test in Bengaluru.

Ravindra smacked 134 as New Zealand were bowled out for 402 in their first innings for a lead of 356 runs against India on the third day of the opening Test in Bengaluru.

Ravindra built a 137-run partnership with Tim Southee for the eighth wicket, a frustrating passage of play for the Indians.

“Dhoni had this very unique ability to preempt & make a bowling change before the damage went out of control. Rohit needs to bring that quality into his leadership,” Manjrekar tweeted.

Ravindra scored his runs off 157 deliveries with 13 boundaries and four sixes, while Southee made a fine 65 to add 137 for the eighth wicket with the former, adding to India’s woes after they were all out for an embarrassing 46 in the first essay.

For India, Ravindra Jadeja took 3/72, Kuldeep Yadav grabbed 3/99 while Mohammed Siraj bagged two wickets. Resuming the day from 180/3, New Zealand lost wickets in the initial hour to raise the vision of a collapse before Ravindra bailed them out with a brilliant innings.

The 24-year-old, who has his family roots in Bengaluru, concentrated on safeguarding his wicket when the bowlers were on the rampage but opened up once the track settled down more to display his full range.

Ravindra showed the correct method to play spinners on this pitch, either staying on the front foot or making a shimmy down the track that nullified the turn and took the leg before dismissal out of the equation as well.
