Those who have seen the path-breaker Shoojit Sircar’s path-breaking new film I Want To Talk, swear it is an enchanting odyssey into the heart of loneliness and compassion. Arguably, Shootji’s finest work since Piku nine years ago, I Want To Talk is likely to be a talking point for many months to come.
Abhishek who had to put on an impractical amount of weight for the part says it has been worth it. “The last time I grew a paunch was for Mani Ratnam’s Guru. Back then I was much younger. I won’t do it again for any role. But this one… is much more than just a role. My character is reflective of our times when we are all isolated and in dire need to connect with others.”
I Want To Talk couldn’t have chosen a better time for release It is likely to have a clear window on November 22 when it opens. The releases this week have all floundered at the box office.
A multiplex manager in Delhi who wants to remain unnamed says this week’s collections are the worst in recent months. “Even the Suriya starrer Kanguva has been lukewarm. As for the others, the less said the better.”
Bihar exhibitor Roshan Singh gives Shoojit’s film a fair chance to shine at the box office. “Even his last directorial Sardar Udham Singh which went straight to OTT, many felt it should have gone on the big screen. Shoojit Sircar has done excellent work with the senior Bachchan in Piku and Gulabo Sitabo. Now let’s see what he has done with Junior Bachchan.”
