New Delhi: Indian stock markets ended Wednesday’s session on a weak note as both benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50, closed in the negative territory after a volatile day of trading. The BSE Sensex fell 138.74 points or 0.17 per cent to close at 80,081.98, while the NSE Nifty50 dropped 36.60 points or 0.15 per cent to settle at 24,435.50.

Out of the 30 stocks in the Sensex, 22 ended with losses. Mahindra & Mahindra, Sun Pharma, Larsen & Toubro, and Adani Ports were among the major losers, with declines of up to 3.04 per cent.

However, some stocks bucked the trend. Bajaj Finance, Tech Mahindra, TCS, and HDFC Bank were among the eight gainers on the index, with Bajaj Finance leading the pack with a 4.95 per cent jump.
Sector Performance
The broader market saw some positive momentum, with the Nifty Smallcap 100 gaining 1.25 per cent and the Nifty Midcap 100 rising 0.64 per cent. Among sectoral indices, the Nifty IT index stood out, closing 2.38 per cent higher, driven by strong buying in tech stocks. Other sectors such as Financial Services, FMCG, Media, Consumer Durables, and PSU Banks also ended in the green.
In contrast, the Auto, Pharma, Healthcare, and Oil Marketing Companies (OMC) sectors dragged the market, closing in the red.

Despite some strength in IT and financial sectors, the overall market sentiment remained cautious, reflecting the volatility in global markets. Investors will continue to watch sector-specific trends and broader economic cues in the coming days.
