This Diwali has brought two entertaining Bollywood movies to the audience. First is Rohit Shetty’s cop film Singham Again, starring Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. The second one is Anees Bazmee’s horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, starring Kartik Aaryan and Vidya Balan. However, both films are threequels – the third installments in their respective franchises. So, can you watch these films without having seen the first two parts? Let us answer your question!
Singham Again
The first film in Rohit Shetty’s cop universe as well as the first film in the franchise, Singham, was released back in 2011. It starred Ajay as Bajirao Singham, an honest police officer, who has reprised his role in the threequel. Kareena, who was introduced as his love interest Avani in the sequel Singham Returns (2014), is in this film as well. However, one doesn’t have to watch these movies in order to enjoy the new one.
That being said, Singham Again is a continuation of Sooryavanshi. Starring Akshay Kumar, the movie introduced one of the key villains – Jackie Shroff as Omar Hafeez. He has reprised his role in the threequel.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3
Bhool Bhulaiyaa‘s first part was released in 2007. It was a psychological horror directed by Priyadarshan and headlined by Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan. The threequel’s only link to that movie is the character of Manjulika, played by Vidya Balan. However, Vidya’s Manjulika in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is a completely new one, with a different modern-day identity.
The only link to Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (2022), directed by the recent film’s director Anees Bazmee, is the character of Ruhaan, aka Rooh Baba, a fake ghostbuster played by Kartik Aaryan. He reprises his role in the threequel but is handed out a new mission at a new place, with a completely new love interest (played by Triptii Dimri). Hence, watching any of the two previous movies is not necessary to enjoy this one.
