Stock Market Today: India’s main stock indices, Sensex and Nifty, started the week with little movement today. This is due to mixed signals from global markets. At the start of trading, the Sensex dropped by 290 points, or 0.34 per cent, to 85,280, while the Nifty 50 fell by 92 points, or 0.35 per cent, to 26,086.
Broader Market
Broader indices also saw losses, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 declining by 0.15 per cent and 0.10 per cent, respectively. Sector-wise, Bank Nifty, Media, Nifty Private Bank, and Realty all dropped by more than 1 per cent.
Sectoral Performance
On the positive side, the Nifty Oil & Gas index surged by 2.37 per cent, while sectors like PSU Bank, Pharma, Metal, and IT saw gains of up to 1.15 per cent.
Stock Market On Last Trading Session
On Friday, both indices had reached record highs before pulling back. The Sensex touched an all-time high of 85,978.25 before closing 264 points lower at 85,571.85, down 0.31 per cent. Similarly, the Nifty 50 hit a record high of 26,277.35 but ended the session down by 37.13 points, or 0.14 per cent, at 26,178.95.
Asian Markets
Asian markets were mostly higher on Monday as China introduced more economic stimulus measures. However, Japan’s Nikkei fell sharply due to concerns that the country’s new prime minister might normalize interest rates. Geopolitical tensions also weighed on markets, with Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon adding to uncertainty, though oil prices remained under pressure due to potential increased supply.
Stock Market Today: Pre-Opening
At 9:09 am, the Nifty 50 was trading at 26061.30, down by 117.65 points or 0.45 per cent. Sensex is also down by 363.09 points or 0.42 per cent. The BSE was trading at 85208.76.
GIFT Nifty
GIFT Nifty, the key indicator of Indian Stock Market was trading below 37.50 points or 0.14 per cent at 26,316.50.
