India and Pakistan are set to lock horns in the much-awaited clash of the T20 World Cup 2024 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday.
India have started their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a clinical eight-wicket win over Ireland. On the other hand, the Babar Azam-led Pakistan have the risk of elimination in the first round after a defeat against co-hosts United States, ranked 18th in the world, in the Super Over.
Sunday’s match in New York will be their third meeting between India and Pakistan at the ICC events over the last three years. Overall, India lead 6-1 in their seven T20 World Cup matches against Pakistan and will look to continue their domination over their neighbours in ICC events.
Ahead of the much-anticipated clash, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has revealed the key battles he’s looking forward to seeing on Sunday.
The 42-year-old also said he’s eagerly waiting to see India skipper Rohit Sharma going up against veteran pacer Mohammad Amir and Virat Kohli facing Shaheen Afridi during the game in New York.
“I think we’re all moved by the emotion of the India-Pakistan game because we have a lot of history. Pakistan have got some really fiery bowlers. I think we got a stronger batting side. I’m definitely looking at Mohammed Amir vs Rohit because he likes to get the ball full and then Shaheen Afridi against Virat,” said Yuvraj in a video released by ICC on Instagram.
“I think these are going to be some big match ups. But at the end of the day, you have to use your mind. You have to play according to the situation and I feel the team which plays according to the situation and keeps the emotion back will definitely win this game,” he added.
Notably, left-arm pacers Amir and Shaheen have caused some serious problems with the new ball for India in the past. Amir has dismissed Rohit thrice in international cricket out of eight meetings while Shaheen has dismissed Kohli three times in five matches.
Given India’s historic weakness against the left-arm seamers, it will be interesting to see how experienced campaigners like Virat and Kohli will tackle it.
