'see you on october 1, jd vance': tim walz accepts invite for vp debate

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Senator JD Vance are likely to face off in a vice-presidential debate on October 1. On Wednesday, Walz, who is Kamala Harris’ vice-presidential pick, accepted an invitation from CBS News to debate Vance. “See you on October 1, JD,” Walz wrote on X, reposting CBS’ announcement.

The CBS post stated, “Today, CBS News invited both vice-presidential candidates to participate in a debate in New York City. We provided the campaigns with four dates as options: Sept. 17, Sept. 24, Oct. 1 and Oct. 8. We look forward to their responses and providing voters with an opportunity to hear directly from the vice-presidential candidates.”

A Harris campaign official later confirmed the October 1 date, adding, “Governor Walz looks forward to debating JD Vance — if he shows up.”

Vance, who is representing Ohio, has not yet responded to the invitation.

In the meantime, a presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris is set for September 10, hosted by ABC.

“ABC News will host qualifying presidential candidates to debate on September 10 on ABC. Vice President Harris and former President Trump have both confirmed they will attend the ABC debate,” the network said in a statement earlier this month.

During a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Trump expressed his eagerness for the upcoming debates.

“I think it’s very important to have debates, and we’ve agreed with Fox on a date of September 4. We’ve agreed with NBC. Fairly full agreement subject to them on September 10. And we’ve agreed with ABC on September 25,” the former president said.
